Alan Young
I studied at the Royal College of Art, and, while a student, travelled each summer to make drawings and paintings in the border country of Powys and Herefordshire. Over the last twenty five years I have returned frequently to the Brecon Beacons and have exhibited my work at a number of Welsh galleries, including the Royal Cambrian Academy, MOMA (Wales), Oriel Ceri Richards at Swansea University, the Tower Gallery Crickhowell and the National Library of Wales which has purchased one of my watercolours for its collection.
A passion for working within nature and capturing the spirit of place has led me from Samuel Palmer’s Shoreham to the valley of the river Bourne in Kent, where I live with my family, and then further afield to Finland where I responded to the forests and lakes, and to the balance there between culture and wilderness.
